The history of the Faculty of Business Administration in foreign languages starts in 1991, when, through a Tempus program and through the development of several specializations such as the Economics of Industry, Construction and Transportation (which becomes the Enterprise’s Economics) and Finance – Accounting (which becomes Business Administration), is established the Department for Economic Studies in Foreign Languages.
In the first phase, this department had available 30 places for the English section and 30 places for the French section. These places were occupied by the best students who were admitted/accepted in the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. After the admission exam, and based on the admission grade, students had to pass a foreign language test, and the first ones were accepted at in this department.
In 1993, it was established the German section due to the demand on the labor market for graduates of this language and to the fact that there were many professor originating from Germany who teached in the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. Moreover, due to the continuous development of this department, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies’ management decided to transform this department in the Faculty of Economic Studies in Foreign Languages. After this change, the faculty had its own admission contest with three tests: economics, mathematics and foreign languages.
In 1996, the building of the Faculty of Economic Studies in Foreign Languages was changed from Romana Square to Calea Grivitei nr. 2-2a, where it is present even today. This building benefitted from a high amount of investments from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. In 2011, it was finalized the renovation of this building. Today, it is one of the most resistent buildings to earthquakes, due to the fact that the project was thought by Canadians.
