MULTI-DISCIPLINARY INNOVATION FOR SOCIAL CHANGE (SHIINE)

AIM and OBJECTIVES

Action aim

The main aim of the Action is to demonstrate, through the adoption of Multi-Disciplinary Innovation (MDI) methods, how we can respond to social problems with a design-led approach which has a problem-oriented ethos, supporting positive social change and the development of international public policy discourse. It will be achieved through the establishment of a Pan European Public Sector Innovation (ePSI) lab. It will prepare students for roles in employment by integrating education programmes into the lab’s operations and it will support agencies that have a role in responding to and developing public policy.

Research coordination objectives

Objective 1. Co-ordinate information gathering of multi-disciplinary innovation principles, practices and resources and mobilize multi-stakeholder, multi-disciplinary networks of topic experts from academia and practice and through co-creation, discover and define opportunities to address social problems;

Objective 2. Co-ordinate information gathering about the ways to prepare graduates beyond disciplines using collaborative, generative, problem-solving approaches;

Objective 3. Scope the nature of Higher Education led Multi-Disciplinary Innovation (MDI) in promoting Social Entrepreneurship (SE) and Social Innovation (SI).

Objective 4. Develop a Pan-European Public Sector Innovation Lab (ePSI) and support agencies that develop public policy.

Objective 5. Develop an understanding of the principles and practices of design-led entrepreneurship and embed approaches through academic and practitioner networks.

Objective 6. Develop country-specific and pan-European solutions to societal challenges by creatively aligning capabilities and resources in a context where conflicting priorities amongst stakeholders are likely.

Capacity-building objectives

Objective 1. Foster knowledge exchange and develop a joint research agenda using a MDI approach for the public sector, acting as a transnational platform through a Pan-European Public Sector Innovation (ePSI) Lab facilitating multi-stakeholder engagement and co-creation processes linking local, national and international levels with the use of relevant methods and tools.

Objective 2. Analyse HEIs’ role in creating social change, transformation and impact. Innovations such as corporate volunteering, social philanthropy and Social Investment Bonds will be examined.

Objective 3. Act as a transnational platform with Pan-European Public Sector Innovation (ePSI) Lab facilitating multi-stakeholder engagement and co-creation processes linking local, national and international levels with the use of relevant methods and tools

WG1. Design-led approaches to Social Innovation (SI) and Social Entrepreneurship (SE)

Objective: Scope the nature of Higher Education- led Multi-Disciplinary Innovation (MDI) in promoting Social Entrepreneurship (SE) and Social Innovation (SI).
